Opened in September, this 4-star hotel located between the North and East stations aims to be a “green oasis in the heart of Paris”. Promise kept? We tested.

Le Figaro’s opinion

7/10

Opened in September, the Bloom House Hotel is the fourth address in the Forstyle Hotels collection, which also owns the Parister, in the 9th arrondissement. This four-star will undoubtedly appeal to young Parisians looking for a trendy place in this district between two stations, affordable and full of life, thanks to an inventive restaurant, a devilishly Instagrammable bar and a wellness area open late in the evening. More discerning travelers may find fault with the service. Unless the hotel, just opened, quickly revises its copy?

The situation

7/10

The hotel is located in the 10th arrondissement of Paris, equidistant from the Gare du Nord and Gare de l’Est stations. Ideal for anyone arriving from one of them, not necessarily for sightseeing. However, the theater district is not very far away and the area is well served by public transport.

The decor

8/10

Designed by the Wunder architectural firm, the decor is warm, with Mediterranean influences in its tones (terracotta, gold) and materials (zelliges, raffia, terracotta). In the restaurant, colorful Berber carpets hanging on the wall put on a show while in the patio (called “garden”, but that’s a big word for three palm trees fighting a duel…), around the swimming pool water green zellige, you almost think you are in Marrakech. However, we regret that the hotel subscribes to certain questionable trends of the moment, such as these neon messages with a high philosophical significance (“My heart makes Bloom”). The wellness area with its swimming pool surrounded by green plants, jungle pattern cement tiles and arches, is the most successful part of the hotel.

The rooms

7/10

Divided into five categories, the 91 rooms, some overlook the street, others overlook the interior courtyard. First option for ours, with, as a result, a sacred opposite. Too bad, because the comfortable adjoining balcony was one of the strong points of this room, warm but cramped. So much so that apart from a tiny rod with three hangers, we have no place to store our things. A bit limited for long stays, especially for a four-star. Another downside is the bathroom in the middle of the room. Even if a curtain allows you to isolate yourself, in terms of privacy we have seen better. Although we were unable to visit them, the rooms on the top floors seemed to offer a more pleasant view, with the Sacré-Cœur in our sights.

Service and equipment

6/10

The hotel’s strong point is its wellness area which offers an 18m² swimming pool, large rain showers, a sauna, two treatment rooms and one of the prettiest fitness rooms we have ever seen. For women, treatments are from Fleur’s (French brand which, as its name suggests, offers treatments with jasmine or exotic flowers); it’s Phytomer for men. The icing on the cake is that this space is open from 6 a.m. to 10 p.m. without interruption. Ideal for a solo dip at first (or last) light.
In terms of service, everything was not up to par at the time of our visit, a few weeks after opening. This was particularly the case in the restaurant, where the waiters seemed incapable of telling us about this or that ingredient on a menu that was nevertheless short and seemed to have forgotten that a meal is always more pleasant accompanied by bread and water. … Damage !

At the table and at the bar

8/10

Another strong point of the hotel. The menu of the Bloom Garden restaurant, open in the evening from Tuesday to Saturday, is designed by Olivier Streiff. This ex-Top Chef candidate made an impression as much for his gothic look as for his dishes. Now adorned with a Dali mustache, the chef has put together a short (four starters, four main courses, four desserts) and exotic menu, full of Mediterranean influences. If the stainless hummus is in the game, certain dishes are more daring. So tomato and raspberry gazpacho, isfahan sorbet or candied peppers with a touch of chocolate coulant. Only one regret, when it comes to the bill. €19 entry, it’s still expensive…
At the bar, open every day from 10 a.m. to 11 p.m., the cocktail menu is designed by Victor Delpierre, formerly of the Ritz and inventor of “drink cuisine”. Don’t look for mojitos here: they are replaced by spirulina or dill drinks, served in exquisite, flowery cups. Rare enough to be highlighted, the “mocktails” menu is as long (and inventive) as its alcoholic twin.

Value for money

9/10

On this side, it’s hard to do better with a night that starts at €139 and rarely exceeds €200. For Paris-Centre, that’s really not much!
