BMW recalls new 7-Series and i7 again due to electronic glitches

The North American branch of the brand has acknowledged that there is a software problem on the 760i xDrive and i7 xDrive60 sedans with optional Executive Lounge seats. The electronic unit may not recognize the position of the seat, in which case the active safety systems will receive a message about the invalid position of the seat, and the emergency mode will automatically turn on.

Activating the emergency mode is dangerous because in this case the front passenger airbag, knee airbag and active head restraint are switched off. Without these systems, the risk of injury in the event of an accident increases. Authorized BMW dealers will reprogram the electronic seat unit to fix the error.

The recall campaign will affect 305 BMW 760i xDrive sedans built between July 5, 2022 and January 24, 2023, and 92 BMW i7 xDrive60 electric cars built between July 4, 2022 and January 24, 2023. All these are machines for the North American market, but in other countries, the “sevens” may have the same software defect.

Although the BMW 7-Series in the back of the G70 has been on sale for about three months, the recall due to electronic glitches has become second in a row. Previously, BMW admitted that due to incorrect firmware of the emergency call unit in the event of an accident, the location coordinates would have to be reported manually.
