The company recently reported a net loss for the first quarter of $1.4 billion, significantly more than the $561 million during the same quarter a year ago.
Boeing moved its headquarters from Seattle to Chicago in 2001.
The aircraft giant said, on Thursday, that it “intends to establish a research and technology center in Northern Virginia.”
