The president of Brazil, Jair Bolsonaro, called on his followers to wear the shirt of the Brazilian soccer team when they vote on Sunday, in the presidential elections, where the president is seeking re-election, despite the fact that the polls give Lula da Silva.

The president of Brazil, Jair Bolsonarourged his followers on Wednesday to wear the jersey of the national soccer team and vote with it on in the elections next Sunday, in which the current head of state will seek re-election.

During a live broadcast through his social networks, Bolsonaro criticized that the Electoral Justice is considering prohibiting people from wearing the shirt inside the polling stations, because the yellow and green colors are associated with the president’s campaign. .

“Mr. Alexandre de Moraes – head of the Superior Electoral Court – Prohibit the use of the national team shirt? That is interfering too much. Are you afraid of what? Are you worried about the green and yellow sea of people voting?” said the leader of the Brazilian extreme right.

According to local media, some members of the Transparency Commission, created in 2021 by the Electoral Justice itself to oversee the elections, asked De Moraes to consider this prohibition, but, according to the same press, the high magistrate dismissed that possibility.

In his program, Bolsonaro also intensified criticism against former Brazilian president Luiz Inácio Lula da Silva, the opposition candidate and big favorite for Sunday’s elections.

According to Bolsonaro, it is a “lie” that Lula has been “acquitted” of the corruption charges for which he remained imprisoned for 580 days and criticized the suspension of a process against the former president for a tax debt of 18 million reais (about 3.6 million dollars).

On Tuesday, Judge Gilmar Mendes, of the Supreme Court, suspended the tax collection process against Lula, the favorite in all voting intention polls with an advantage of between fifteen and 18 percentage points over Bolsonaro.

The president cited that Mendes “was part of that vote that ‘condemned’ Lula and the process returned to the first instance” and, according to Bolsonaro, his political rival intends “not to pay the bills of millions” that he would be owing to the treasury and, in addition, “will enter with a request for compensation against the Brazilian State.”

Lula, the president added, seeks “to be compensated for the time he was imprisoned. And you can be sure that all the informers who returned the money (diverted) are going to ask for that money back with interest and monetary correction, ”he ironically.

He also said he felt “ashamed” for having to carry out his program outside the presidential residence after an order from the Electoral Justice that prevents him from using it for this type of broadcast during the campaign.
