Bombshell in La Ceiba! Former Mexican national team, from Chivas de Guadalajara and Cruz Azul, will play in Vida for six months

Bombshell at the closing of the transfer market in Honduras. The experienced and controversial Mexican soccer player Carlos “Gullit” Peña will play in the First Division of Honduran soccer.

According to information from the Hondu Sports Ilustrada magazine, the 32-year-old Aztec midfielder reached an agreement to play for Vida de La Ceiba.

Luis Cruz, president of the coconut trees, reached a happy agreement with the Mexican player who was a free agent and the player’s arrival in Honduran territory is expected in the next few hours.

“Gullit” has developed his career in recent years in Central American soccer, having recently played for Antigua in Guatemala and FAS in El Salvador. In Salvadoran football he managed to win a League title in 2021.

In Liga MX, Carlos Peña wore the shirts of Pachuca, León, Chivas, Cruz Azul and Necaxa; He also had the opportunity to play in Europe when he played with Rangers from Scotland.

At the national team level, the now Vida player was a World Cup player with the Mexican team when he played in the 2014 World Cup. He also played in the Copa América Centenario and a Gold Cup.

In total, the Mexican won two Liga MX titles with León and was part of that team’s promotion to the highest category of Mexican football. Later he won the MX Super Cup with the Chivas and Necaxa jerseys.

The arrival of “Gullit” is undoubtedly the bombshell for the 2022-2023 Opening Tournament, where five days have already been played and Vida is in third position with 8 points.

THE ROUTE OF THE “GULLIT”

In 2015, Club León decided to sell Gullit Peña to Club Chivas, but their football was never the same.

From Club Chivas, Gullit jumped in 2017 to Rangers FC in Scotland, where he barely played fourteen games.

He returned to Mexico to Cruz Azul, hand in hand with Portuguese coach Pedro Caixinha, and was fired when he was found urinating in a fountain at the concentration hotel in an evident alcoholic state.

From Cruz Azul he went to Club Necaxa, which soon dropped him.

Seeing that in Liga MX the doors were closed to him due to his behavior, Gullit Peña went to Central America to continue his career.

In 2021, he signed with El Salvador’s CD FAS, where he won a league title. He tried to play with Antigua GFC of Guatemala, but it did not materialize.

Now he is close to playing with Vida de Honduras, in what seems to be a last chance for Gullit.

PROBLEMS WITH ALCOHOL

“Gullit” Peña was a benchmark for the León team that won the Liga MX two-time championship and his talent led him to play for several elite teams in Mexican soccer and in Europe.

However, the Mexican soccer player was gradually involved in different scandals and has been involved in alcohol problems.

The talented midfielder was at the peak of his career in 2014 and was set to be one of the pillars of the Mexican team at that year’s World Cup in Brazil. However, a few months before the fair, he had a game loss that led him to lose ownership in the Tri, in that World Cup he only participated a few minutes, with more pain than glory.

In 2019, “Gullit” acknowledged that he had an alcohol problem and that he went to one of the rehabilitation clinics of former world boxing champion Julio César Chávez.

“I don’t regret anything, everything I’ve done is because I wanted to, nobody forced me to do anything. When I wanted to play soccer, it was for me; when I wanted to raise a beer, it was for me; when I wanted to have a child, it was the same. I’m calm, I’m not embarrassed or scared. I had an alcohol problem and that’s why I got involved with Chávez, ”he declared some time ago in an interview for Multimedios.

And he added: “I have a rehabilitation, sometimes I have a person by my side and just as it happened to me, it can happen to anyone,” he declared.
