Boric says that if the Approval wins, the country will not depend on “the historical veto of the right” | National

President Gabriel Boric urged the ruling parties to reach an agreement on constitutional matters, a few weeks before the plebiscite on September 4. He assured that if he wins the Approval, the country “will not have to depend on the historical veto of the right.”

President Gabriel Boric urged the ruling parties to reach an agreement on the proposal for a new Constitution, before the plebiscite on September 4.

It was an unexpected call, considering that the president had stressed -last week- that although the constitutional project “is perfectible”, the improvements should be made “post plebiscite”.

The idea of making explicit what reforms should be made to the text arose in Democratic Socialism. Its representatives have indicated that this path will deliver certainties to the citizens, which they resist in Approve Dignidad.

Yesterday, after the extended political committee that was held in the commune of San Miguel, the head of state said that he sees no difficulty in the ruling parties to reach an agreement. “I think that a debate is taking place that enriches”, he transmitted.

He took advantage of the moment to attack the Rejection, pointing out that if the Approval wins, they will not have to “depend on the historical veto” of the right.

Inside, official voices acknowledged that the president’s statements “dislocated them” and that “they didn’t see it coming.” On the other hand, they indicated that relations could become even more tense, due to discrepancies on the matter.

The President of the Chamber of Deputies, Raúl Soto, revealed that the Head of State told them that he is convinced of the need for a political agreement prior to the referendum.

In the Socialist Party they indicated that they continue in talks, and called for sectors of the DC to also join.

In I Approve Dignity they believe that there is pressure towards their coalition, mainly through the press.

The deputy for Social Convergence, Gael Yeomans, indicated that first the bridges of dialogue must be drawn up, which -according to what she said before President Boric’s declarations- do not yet exist.

The subject mainly stresses Approve Dignidad, so soon definitions are expected in this regard.

Meanwhile, in the political committee it was indicated that the securitywould be in charge of channeling the proposals to define and design eventual reform scenarios.
