Kochi: Minister Veena George called a meeting under the leadership of the Health Minister to discuss health issues in the wake of the Brahmapuram fire. Minister P Rajeev, MLAs and officials are attending the meeting. Other ministers are participating in the meeting online.

The emergency meeting is being held in view of the health problems that have arisen among the residents due to the smoke. The chief secretary also discussed the fire with top officials. A meeting of senior officials was held last night under the chairmanship of Chief Secretary VP Joy.

At the same time, around 10 fire brigades are trying to douse the fire in Brahmapuram. The fire department officials said that the fire was 80 percent under control. Following the fire, District Collector Renuraj had instructed the people living in Brahmapuram and nearby areas to stay at home on Sunday. Shops in the area should be closed. Renuraj stated that more oxygen kiosks will be set up in the area and hospitals are ready to deal with the emergency situation.

The Pollution Control Board has fined the Kochi Corporation for the fire. The corporation was ordered to pay a fine of Rs 1.8 crore. Pollution Control Board Chairman AB Pradeep Kumar said that the chief engineer has been entrusted with legal action. It is suggested that the corporation should give an explanation within 15 days. There was a huge environmental impact due to plastic waste catching fire. The pollution control board chairman said that the corporation will be penalized again after assessing the impact on the environment and other losses. It is time to complete the biomining process.
