According to a netizen named Denise, who recently stopped suffering from prediabetes, the bread you taste while reading the menu would allow restaurateurs to make more money.
In a video that has gone viral on TikTok, the mother of the family explains that eating bread causes your blood sugar levels to rise rapidly.
“They know that a spike in blood sugar will make you hungrier and reduce your ability to resist food,” she says.
By appearing generous, restaurants are actually making more money.
“You order more food, they bring you more bread, and then they give you dessert that’s almost impossible to refuse,” Denise says.
This theory has been criticized by several Internet users, who claim that eating bread often makes them unable to finish their plate and therefore do not have dessert.
