Breaking Barriers through Sports: Empowering Children with Disabilities

“Erasing the barriers of difference”. This could be the motto for the day dedicated to sport proposed by a specialized center for children with disabilities, the I’ll take care of itmultidisciplinary reference center for limb anomalies.

The Cerefam, located in the San Mauricio hospital complex, on the outskirts of Paris, welcomes and supports children born with malformations in the legs or arms or who have suffered some amputation.

For this multi-sport day, the center proposes 13 disciplines and organizes mini-Olympics alongside famous French Paralympic athletes.

In this 2023 edition, the godparents have been Cedric NankingEuropean champion in wheelchair rugby and Cecile Saboureauseveral times champion in the adapted triathlon category.

Last year the godparents were Sofyane Mehiaouifrom the French paralympic wheelchair basketball team and Marie Amelie Le Furthree-time champion in Paralympic athletics.

Dr. Nathaly Quintero Prigent is a rehabilitation doctor and head of the pediatric rehabilitation service at Les Hopitaux de Saint Maurice and talked to RFI about this topic.
