The project for a new battery factory could be announced in the coming days. It would be the fourth plant of this kind in France.

According to information from the website of the National Commission for Public Debate (CNDP), a new battery factory project in France is in the pipeline. The site in question would be planned near Dunkirk. An announcement could take place this week, as Emmanuel Macron is announced for a visit to this corner on May 11 or 12.

The project would be carried by the Taiwanese group ProLogium. He would plan to build two “massive” production sites for batteries in the port of Dunkirk. The investment would exceed five billion euros. The two factories could equip 500,000 to 750,000 electric vehicles per year.

Particularity of the file: it would be solid batteries, a technology still in development which could greatly advance the electric car. These batteries have indeed better recharge times and can offer more autonomy for a similar size.

If this establishment is confirmed, France will be particularly well placed in the production of batteries for electric vehicles, because there are already three major projects underway. The ACC battery factory (which brings together Stellantis, Total and Mercedes) is due to open in the coming months in Douvrin (Pas-de-Calais). AESC Envision, a Sino-Japanese group, must then have a site in Douai, in order to supply Renault production. The Losange has also called on Verkor for batteries that will be fitted to its top-of-the-range models, including the Alpines.
