While the Writers Guild of America strike may be coming to an end, the SAG-AFTRA strike is still very much in effect. In fact, until recently, it has only intensified. Because now SAG-AFTRA has announced it’s also voting in favor of a video game strike, which means performers, voice actors and other stars may soon refuse to work in the video game field until they get better pay and protections for their rights in artificial intelligence. Requirements are met. To be clear, this is not an actual strike yet, but a vote has just been taken indicating that if negotiations are not taken seriously, then SAG-AFTRA will go on strike. In terms of who voted for this, nearly 35,000 voters (about 27.5% of eligible voters) voted in favor of the strike. “It’s time for video game companies to stop playing games and get serious about reaching an agreement on this contract,” said SAG-AFTRA President Fran Drescher. “The outcome of this vote shows that our members understand the existential nature of these negotiations and it is time for these companies – who are making billions and generously paying their CEOs – to give our performers a deal that The agreement continues in the video that gaming is a viable career.
