Breaking News: Serious Fire Breaks Out in Schaerbeek, Avenue de Roodebeek

A fire broke out on Friday morning in the Brussels municipality of Schaerbeek, avenue de Roodebeek. One person was seriously injured jumping out of the window, while four others were overcome by smoke, Brussels firefighters report.

The fire was noticed around 9 a.m., said Walter Derieuw, spokesperson for the fire department. “When we arrived, a victim was lying in the street. It was a person who had jumped out of the window on the first floor. This person was seriously injured and was transferred to hospital.”

Fourteen other people were evacuated from the building, four of whom had been overcome by smoke. They were also transferred to the hospital.

“The fire is now under control, but the exact cause is not yet known”, continues the spokesperson. “It will be necessary to check whether the stability of the building has been affected by the fire.”
