Christmas cookies in the middle of summer at Aldi
The “office watch” of the SonntagsZeitung is an institution. Rumors, antics, success stories: Here you can read what’s happening in the economy beyond the big headlines.
Every year it is amazing how early supermarkets start selling Christmas cookies. But Aldi Switzerland has probably shattered all previous records. In the middle of summer, at the end of August, various varieties of the Monarc own brand could be seen on the shelves of the discounter: Brunsli, Honigsterne, Mailänderli. So-called Xmas nuts – almonds covered with chocolate and other ingredients – were also on offer. Our suggestion to the Aldi Switzerland boss Jerome Meyer: Since the next carnival starts on February 8th, it’s about time to put the first carnival cakes on the shelves.
