Bushnell Women’s Basketball loses to Simpson at Corban Classic

Thirty-one turnovers doomed the Bushnell women’s basketball team to a 77-47 loss against Simpson University at the Corban Classic in Salem, Oregon.

The Beacons fell to a 1-3 record after struggling against the RedHawks press throughout the contest. Bushnell managed just 29% shooting from the field and went 3-for-25 from beyond the three-point arc. Simpson outscored the Beacons 37-6 off turnovers, marking Bushnell’s lowest offensive output of the season.

Struggles Against the Press in Salem

Head Coach Chad Meadors pointed to the team’s inability to handle defensive pressure. We just had a dreadful shooting night, Meadors said. They sped us up a little bit but we missed a lot of layups and open three-point looks. The dam opened and we started turning the ball over to boot and just panicked a little bit. We definitely have some work to do and we won’t let this game define who we are.

Dayvis Key provided a bright spot by securing a double-double for the Beacons. Key scored a team-high 11 points and grabbed 10 rebounds, pulling down seven of those on the offensive glass. Ellis Mastel contributed eight points, while Peyton Vorderstrasse added seven points and five boards.

Bushnell Dominates Boards but Struggles to Convert Second Chances

Bushnell controlled the boards with a 50-44 rebounding advantage, including 24 offensive rebounds. However, the team converted those extra chances into only six second-chance points.

Simpson improved to a 2-2 record behind 14 points from Brooke Quintana. Senaida Barrientos and Carlesia Adams each chipped in ten points for the RedHawks.

Beacons Return Home to Host Weekend Tournament

The Beacons return to action on home turf for the first time next weekend to host their own tournament. Bushnell plays Rocky Mountain College on Friday at 7:00 pm, followed by a matchup against Linfield College on Saturday at 4:00 pm.
