Business creation: the increase has been confirmed since January

Business creation has been consolidating since the start of the year. During the first quarter of 2022, 24,660 units were registered by the Moroccan Industrial and Commercial Property Office, compared to only 20,070 at the end of the first quarter of 2021, i.e. 4,590 more companies.

Since the beginning of the current year, the number of business creations in Morocco has shown an upward trend. In January, it rose to 7,041 units and, in February, to 8,354 or 1,313 additional companies in one month.

In March, this dynamic was less strong, since during the third month of the first quarter, the Moroccan Office of Industrial and Commercial Property (OMPIC) recorded 9,266 business creations, or only 912 more businesses.

Thus the total number of creations recorded in the first quarter of the year stood at 24,660 units against only 20,070 at the end of the first quarter of 2021, i.e. 4,590 more. This is what emerges from the general dashboard of OMPIC. The upward trend is also confirmed from month to month.

Because at the end of March 2022, the total number of business creations registered by the office was divided between 17,444 legal persons, (compared to 10,714 at the end of February), and 7,216 entities created by natural persons, (compared to 4,628 new ones at the end of February) .

The dominant trade

In the detail of these new creations, the trade sector has represented, for several months, 35.55% of the total number of business creations. It is followed by that of building and public works (BTP) and real estate activities, with a percentage of 19.13%, then by the miscellaneous services sector with a share of 16.80%.

For its part, and for the first quarter of this year, the transport sector occupies a share of 9.55%. Industries, meanwhile, carve out a share of 6.77%, hotels and restaurants occupy 6.17%. Furthermore, the technology, information and communication sector represents 2.55%; agriculture and fishing: 2.36%; and finally financial activities: 1.10%.

Casablanca-Settat in pole position
In its dashboard, the Office also presents the details of the regional distribution in terms of business creation. The Casablanca-Settat Region dominates in terms of business creation, with a number of 7,163, ahead of that of Tangier-Tetouan-Al Hoceima (3,388). Rabat-Salé-Kénitra comes in third position with 3,330 creations, followed by Marrakech-Safi with 2,279 companies. In the Fez-Meknes Region, 1,988 were created during the first half of this year and 1,586 in Souss-Massa.

For its part, the Oriental Region registers 1,298 new companies, that of Laâyoune-Sakia El Hamra 1,152, Béni Mellal-Khénifra 892, Drâa-Tafilalet 740, Dakhla-Oued Eddahab 564 and Guelmim-Oued Noun registers 280. With regard to the breakdown by legal form, OMPIC notes that 62.6% of the companies created are limited liability companies with a single partner (SARLAU), 37.2% SARLs and 0.1% public limited companies ( HER).

As a reminder, during the year 2021, business creation activity also showed a positive trend. New registrations in the commercial register had reached 72,227 creations of legal persons, with a notable evolution of 31% compared to the year 2020. For its part, the creation of sole proprietorships (natural persons) experienced an evolution of 9 % compared to 2020.

Thus, 32,521 sole proprietorships were registered against 29,898 in 2020. With regard to business creation intentions, 135,118 negative certificates were issued by the OMPIC during the year 2021, i.e. a growth rate of 22%. . 93% of these requests concerned intentions to create companies that are legal persons and 7% concerned brands.

The Direct Entreprise platform to propel creations

As we announced in a previous edition, the Direct entreprise platform, dedicated to online business creation from A to Z, via digital, is ready. Abdelaziz Babqiqi, Director General of OMPIC, assured that “we are on the home stretch, before the launch of the business creation platform. Everything that had to be done has been settled, all the ministries concerned have signed the decree. We are just waiting for the green light from the government for the launch of the platform”.

It should be remembered that, for this project, the OMPIC was accompanied and supported by a group of state institutions involved throughout the business creation process, in particular the CNSS, the General Directorate of Taxes, the Ministry of Justice and the General Secretariat of the Government.
