A trade payment system has been agreed between Russia and Iran, under which trade between the two countries will now be in local currency, Russia and Iran will no longer use dollars in mutual trade.

Central Bank of Iran (CBI) Governor Mohammad Reza Farzin said that a financial agreement has been signed between Tehran and Moscow for bilateral trade exchange.
During the meeting, the chief bankers of Iran and Russia also signed a memorandum of understanding regarding the joint initiatives of the two countries.
Farzin also said the new financial deal enables Iran and Russia to trade in local currencies.

He added that Iran’s Shetab banking system will be connected to Russia’s MIR interbank system by the end of August based on the agreements reached between the two countries’ special delegations.
Farzin added that the new scheme will allow Iranian citizens to withdraw rubles from Russian ATMs using their Iranian banking cards.
