Chinese electric vehicle manufacturer BYD appeared as the fourth largest manufacturer in the world by sales in the survey released by the company TrendForce, which specializes in market analysis. The data refers to the last month of August.

TrendForce figures indicate that 4.8% of cars sold worldwide during August were from BYD. The automaker was only behind the Japanese Honda (4.9%), the German Volkswagen (6.5%) and the Japanese Toyota (9.8%), which led the month’s ranking.

BYD saw a 5% increase in global sales in August compared to the previous month. With growth, the Chinese company managed to surpass traditional automakers such as Hyundai, which had a 4.3% share, and Ford (4.2%).

On the other hand, Ford recorded a drop in sales of 6.7%. Right after Ford, Chevrolet appeared in seventh place with 4%. Internal problems in the United States were pointed out as causing the decline of American automakers.

In any case, BYD’s growth draws attention because the company only sells electrified cars (hybrid and electric) while traditional competing brands still offer many models powered solely by combustion.

In China, BYD was the leader in car sales, accounting for 11.98% and selling more than 230 thousand in the local market. In Brazil, the automaker has also been recording an increase e works to set up a factory in Bahia to reinforce its presence in the country.
