Mallorca has had problems with drinking tourists for a long time. They leave a lot of litter, misbehave and put themselves in danger as well. That is why the municipality of Calvià is now taking hard action once morest “balconing” – with high fines.
“Balconing” means climbing or jumping from one hotel balcony to the next. This often happens at dizzy heights and not infrequently with a high alcohol level. Falls often lead to serious injuries or even death.
This summer Calvià banned the dangerous trend, and those who did not comply were fined. Five foreign tourists were each fined 36,000 euros. This is reported by the “Mallorca Magazin” portal.
And the fines are useful: A community spokesman speaks of a “strong, deterrent effect”. There was no “balconing” death in Calvià this summer. The trend will not be tolerated.
At 36,000 euros, the fines for the dangerous activity are painful. Calvià is merciful: the “Balearic Agenda 2023” reform allows “balconing” fines of 6,000 to 60,000 euros.
