Indian Ambassador to Cambodia Devyani Khobrogade dressed up as a traditional Hoor on the arrival of the local New Year and had a photo shoot in traditional dress. This photoshoot has gone viral on social media. Devyani was posted to Cambodia in 2020.
Many have liked the appearance of the Indian ambassador as a hur found in Cambodian folklore and they have appreciated this way of greeting the Cambodian people for the New Year, but there are not a few critics. He says that all this is not compatible with the sensitivity of the ambassador’s position.
Devyani is a doctor. He joined the Indian Foreign Service in 1999. So far she has served in Berlin, New York, Islamabad and Rome apart from Cambodia. While stationed in New York, he strained relations between the US and India when he was arrested in December 2013 for visa fraud and misrepresentation.
Devyani’s other controversies arose during her diplomatic service in the US when she was accused of paying her housekeeper less than the officially fixed minimum wage.
