“A red service alert means we’re suspending delivery for the day and not sending our delivery agents to make their routes or asking them to come in,” Canada Post said in a statement.

Deliveries will resume as soon as conditions improve and they can be done safely. “The safety of our employees is our top priority,” the federal service said.

The weather is also impacting Canada Post’s retail operations, and some post offices may be closed on Monday.

“We encourage customers to de-ice access to their homes, stairs and driveways so that letter carriers, as well as any other visitors, can safely access the main door when service resumes,” added Canada Post.
