In a video posted by Guinness World Records, we can see him, in a red tank top, a bandana of the same color in his hair, swallowing each Carolina Reaper. To his face, this doesn’t seem like fun.

His name sends shivers down your spine. The Carolina Reaper (or “Fauchause de la Caroline”, in French) is the hottest pepper in the world. This week, Mike Jack, a Canadian, consumed 50 in six minutes and 49.2 seconds, breaking his previous world record, reports the Guardian.

After setting his record, consuming one chili pepper every eight seconds, he went so far as to consume 85 more, for a total of 135. On the Scoville scale, which measures the degree of hotness of one pepper, the Carolina Reaper reached the mark of 1.64 million units. The jalapeños are between 2500 and 8000.

“The first pepper is the worst”

In a video posted by Guinness World Records, which authenticated his challenge, we can see him, in a red tank top, a bandana of the same color in his hair, swallowing each Carolina Reaper. To his face, this doesn’t seem like fun.

“The first chili is the worst. The first spicy bite is intense. The second seems less bad, but with each one it gets hotter and hotter, as new areas in the mouth are affected,” he explained to the Guinness World Records website..

Mike Jack is the holder of several other records. Like the one for having drunk a bottle of hot sauce the fastest and the one for a liter bottle of tomato sauce.
