Canadian female hockey players claim gold against Americans

The Canadians claim a fifth gold medal in the last six Olympic Games.

Marie-Philip Poulin had three points, including two goals, in the win.

The captain became the only female hockey player of any gender to score in four Olympic gold medal games.

The group, since 2018, wanted to win this medalmentioned the captain after the meeting, visibly emotional.

It was the Americans who generated the first scoring chances. Following a fine passing game, Hannah Brandt found herself alone in front of the Canadian net, but the striker’s shot hit the post to the right of Ann-Renée Desbiens.

Canada has succeeded in turning the tide. Natalie Spooner pounced on a loose puck in the slot to score. However, the Americans disputed the goal by pleading an offside on the sequence. After officials checked, the goal was disallowed.

A few minutes later, a point shot from Claire Thompson, deflected by Sarah Nurse, beat the vigilance of American goaltender Alex Cavallini to give Canada a 1-0 lead. Mélodie Daoust and Marie-Philip Poulin picked up an assist on the streak.

With five minutes to go in the first period, Poulin doubled their lead after stealing the puck from a rival in the offensive zone. His wrist shot left the American goalkeeper no chance.

In the second period, Sarah Fillier served a superb lobbed pass to Spooner in two against one, but Cavallini made the save to save the mark.

However, the Canadians came back to the charge. In American territory, Nurse gave the puck to Brianne Jenner who shot on the net and Poulin, again, jumped on the rebound to make it 3-0.

The Americans finally got on the score late in the second period. Shorthanded, Hilary Knight jumped on her own return to beat Desbiens and cut the lead to 3-1. Hannah Brandt collected an assist on the play.

Late in the game, the Americans attacked six against four after a penalty to Marie-Philip Poulin and Amanda Kessel found the back of the net with 12 seconds left. But it was too little too late.

Ann-Renée Desbiens was smoldering in front of the Canadian net with 38 saves. His vis-à-vis Alex Cavallini blocked 18 shots.
