It was determined that for almost 72 hours, both 28-year-old men remained deprived of their liberty in a hotel in the south of Cali, after being kidnapped by armed men while they were in a commercial establishment.
The alert was given by acquaintances and friends of the young people, whom they came to visit in Cali, so the authorities immediately began an operation to find the whereabouts of the foreigners.

In rapid action, the Military Forces began to draw up a plan to achieve the release, for which the location of a cell phone was key and according to the authorities, thanks to the deployment of the military operation, the kidnappers were forced to leave released the Canadians, whose identity is currently unknown publicly, but in the next few hours they will have to be heard in a statement procedure.
Regarding the above, it was revealed that after being cornered, the criminals left their victims to escape. Upon authorities’ arrival, the Canadians were completely alone and scared, but fortunately unharmed, which was investigators’ biggest concern.
“The units of the Military Gaula Valle del Cauca are alerted to the criminal act and immediately react, and with the support of the CTI of the Prosecutor’s Office, they begin the investigative and operational work with the collection of evidentiary material and evidence that would allow establishing the escape route. that the criminals would have taken with their victims,” said the commander of the Army’s Third Brigade, Colonel Julio Arturo Pinzón.
After the rescue, the material evidence showed that the alleged criminals would have a translator with them, through whom they could communicate with the foreign citizens and in this way they could tell them their demands. Due to these data and others resulting from the investigations, it is believed that the plagiarism was carried out by a criminal gang with defined roles.
For its part, the Prosecutor’s Office opened an investigation to clarify the facts and determine how the foreigners ended up in the hands of the criminal group specialized in kidnapping for ransom. Thus, more details are expected about the place where they were taken and after their statements an investigative line can be established that will allow those responsible to be identified and their arrest achieved.
It was also known that to achieve the release of the young people, a lock plan was necessary in Cali with checkpoints to prevent the kidnappers from trying to take those held captive out of the city. “After the rescue operation, the Canadian citizens were taken to the Gaula Militar Valle facilities to restore their rights,” the Third Brigade stated in an official statement.
It is worth mentioning that despite the release of the tourists, concern remains among the population about tourists who visit the country, since in recent months, according to the Prosecutor’s Office, kidnappings have increased. So much so that the specialized groups that combat this type of scourge had to be reactivated.

Regarding the issue of kidnappings, the vice president, Francia Márquez, recognized that the country is going through a complex security situation that needs collective and early efforts.
