Cannabis legalization: Police announce border controls

The Interior Ministry announced this in a press release on Tuesday. It was said that the main aim was to combat cross-border drug trafficking and to get drug drivers off the roads.

It was said that the police would carry out more checks – especially in areas close to the border. According to the ministry, plainclothes police officers as well as specialists from the state transport departments will be on duty. In recent years, hundreds of such specialists have been trained across the country who can quickly recognize symptoms of substance abuse disorders, the ministry emphasized.

The cannabis law came into force in Germany on Monday. Possession and consumption of the intoxicating herb is therefore legal for adults under certain conditions.
