A native application for DALL·E, OpenAI’s image generation AI, was missing. A developer took care of it. The Canvas app is open source. It is currently reserved for macOS. Presentation.

Kevin Hermawan est an Indonesian developer. We already owe him several applications, mainly on the web, macOS and iOS, published via his Github account : Readle, Ollamac, listene.day and readle.day. This time, it is the DALL·E image creation artificial intelligence that he is tackling with un client macOS open source. Code name of its application: Canvas.

Published under the MIT license (potentially portable to other operating systems such as Linux or Windows), Canvas is what the developer calls a “ DALL-E playground for the Mac “. From its interface, you can, in fact, create images with DALL·E 3 and DALL·E 2 technologies.

Currently, the application is capable of generating an image, editing it or offering variations. You can copy, save and share your creations afterwards.

The app is native, libre et open source. It is free, but you will have to meet two important criteria: a minimum macOS 14.0 operating system and an OpenAI API key (that you can recover from your account). DALL·E is a paid technology.

The version 1.0 date was released last week and it has already been revised to fix some teething bugs.
