Discussions about alternatives are ongoing. Audi explained that, together with other brands in the VW Group, it is currently being examined how the production of the parts could be relocated to other supplier locations. “In addition to Eastern Europe, North Africa, Mexico and possibly China are possible alternatives that we are evaluating,” said a spokesman. It is possible, for example, that the suppliers split the production across several locations. The industry says that it has now been clarified where there is enough space for additional capacities, qualified employees and machines. The only question that remains open is who will pay for the costs of expanding the capacities in the other plants – the suppliers or the car manufacturers, who are currently making brilliant profits. According to insiders, it could be months before other sites can take over the work of the Ukrainian factories. Especially when special machines are required, longer waiting times are unavoidable.
