A vehicle was destroyed by the flames on Saturday, about fifty meters from the Ferney tunnel, in the town of Grand-Saconnex (GE). “We received the alarm at 3:44 p.m.,” says Lieutenant Nicolas Millot, spokesperson for the Geneva Fire and Rescue Service (SIS).

Five minutes later, the firefighters and vehicles of the SIS arrived on the spot, thus joining the men of the fire of the airport, already present from the first emanations of smoke. “The fire started in one of the highly guarded areas of the airport perimeter because it is below the runway,” explains Taline Abdel Nour, spokesperson for Genève Aéroport.

No injuries

“The occupants were out, fortunately there were no injuries,” adds Nicolas Millot. “It’s really important to get as far away from a burning car as possible. Because when they explode, the airbags can propel burning particles up to ten meters.

If the firefighters only took a quarter of an hour to overcome the disaster, they still secured the area, Saturday at the start of the evening, in order to manage the spillage of hydrocarbons on the roadway and in the pipes. .
