Carinthia: emergency services rehearse the emergency in two motorway tunnels

When an accident happens in a tunnel, the alarmed emergency services have to do everything they can. For this reason, exercises are regularly held in the longer motorway tunnels, in which fire brigades, rescue services, the police and also ASFINAG practice emergencies. That is why exercises will take place on October 4th in the Ehrentalerberg tunnel and on October 8th in the Kroislerwand tunnel.

CARINTHIA. In the coming week, two tunnels will be the scene of such large-scale exercises. The Ehrentalerberg tunnel on the A 2 southern autobahn will start on Tuesday, October 4th. The fire brigades of the city of Klagenfurt and the Red Cross are expecting a completely unknown scenario. In total, more than 130 people will be involved in this exercise.

Northern bypass closed

The entire northern bypass of Klagenfurt is therefore closed for this exercise on October 4th in both directions from 8 p.m. to 5 a.m. The exercise itself will last until around midnight, with maintenance work taking place in the four tunnels during the remaining hours of the night. Traffic will be diverted via the Klagenfurt Südring.

Accident scenario in the Kroislerwand tunnel

A classic scenario awaits the fire brigades from Feistritz and Töplitsch and the Red Cross Villach in the Kroislerwand tunnel on the A 10 Tauern autobahn on Saturday, October 8th. Three cars collided in the tunnel, several people were seriously injured. The tunnel will be closed for this exercise from 7 p.m. to midnight. During this time, traffic will be diverted between Spittal-Ost and Villach-West.

exercises required by law

At intervals of no more than four years, large-scale exercises must take place in tunnels longer than 500 meters with all emergency organizations, which are organized and managed by ASFINAG. The goal: In an emergency, all emergency services should know exactly what access options are available and what equipment is in the tunnels that are in their operational area.
