Carlos Sainz Jr. (Scuderia Ferrari) finished the 2022 F1 Round 8 Azerbaijan Grand Prix Friday free run in 5th place.
Carlos Sainz Jr., who finished the first free run in 4th place, was overtaken by Fernando Alonso in the second free run and finished in 5th place. But that was because he had to stop the flying lap, and the team brought a gain between FP1 and FP2, saying the car felt much more comfortable.
“It was a tough session. It was a tough session to get used to speed, walls and bumps, like every Friday here in Baku,” said Carlos Sainz Jr.
“With these new cars, you can feel more bumps and challenges on this circuit.”
“But it was a good day. I think we were able to take good steps as a team. We were able to drive in the right direction and FP2 was certainly more competitive than FP1 and I felt a little more comfortable. I think I can get there. “
Scuderia Ferrari’s cars have popping (porpoising), but so far they haven’t had much of an impact on time. In fact Charles Leclerc set the fastest time on his first day.
However, Carlos Sainz Jr. said Popasin was “especially terrible” in his car.
“That’s certainly what I’m investigating. Today, for some reason, I’ve had a lot of trouble with this phenomenon that I haven’t seen in the last few races, and it looked particularly bad on my part of the garage.”
“So you have to dig into the data with the engineers. It’s really annoying here. I’ve lost a lot of confidence in straight and braking and I hope I can solve it tomorrow.”
