The non-executive director of Grupo Carrinho, Samuel Candundo, assured that his institution will, from now on, provide food close to its expiration date to some communities ravaged by hunger across the country, through churches. The Congregational Evangelical Church in Angola wants more initiatives of this nature, in order to combat hunger in Angola
The intention was expressed in a memorandum that establishes a partnership between Carrinho and the Evangelical Congregational Church in Angola. For Carrinho’s part, its non-executive administrator, Samuel Candundo, signed the document, while pastor André Cangovi Eurico, general secretary of IECA, initialed the document on behalf of the churches.
Speaking to the press, on the sidelines of the event, the non-executive director stated that, within the scope of the Food Recovery Program, carried out by his institution, Alcípio do Lobito was the most affected, having recorded five deaths, although the Health Services Civil Protection and Firefighters are still talking about provisional data. Some citizens affected by the rain launched a cry for help from the authorities, in the form of Sunday, heavy rainfall resulted in deaths, flooding of several streets and felling of trees.
Munigun food, on the eve of its expiration, will not be discarded and, therefore, sent to those who really need it, judging by the fact that hunger affects many communities across the country.
“We thought we should take advantage, deliver, in partnership with several religious institutions here in the provinces of Benguela, Huambo and Bié, IECA was allocated to distribute this product to people in need”, maintains the person in charge. The range of products to be made available to communities includes, among others, rice, cornmeal, beans and oil.
