With the same brutality that characterizes their crimes, one of the members of this organization, present in the south of Miami, is accused of participating in the recent murder of José Luis Sánchez Valera, a former retired Venezuelan police officer who lived in Doral.

The dangerous Venezuelan criminal gang, which has expanded its operations and generated chaos in Latin America, was identified in southern Florida, according to police. A member of that cell was captured for the murder of the 43-year-old man.

The tragic incident occurred at the end of last November, when Sánchez was lured by women to a hotel room in Miami. After leaving the room, he was violently kidnapped in the parking lot by three unknown individuals dressed in black, according to the affidavit of Miami-Dade Police Detective Humberto García, to which the Miami Herald newspaper had access.

Sánchez’s vehicle, a 2018 Toyota 4Runner, was captured by surveillance cameras driving away with the kidnappers. Hours later, a break-in occurred at the victim’s apartment in Doral, where the criminals stole a safe before fleeing in a silver sedan.

This incident marks the first documented case of a crime committed by members of the Aragua Train in Florida. Venezuelan security experts had previously speculated regarding the presence of this gang in the United States, and this case seems to confirm their concerns, according to the Miami Herald.

The Tren de Aragua organization, known for terrorizing Venezuelan citizens, has been expanding its criminal activities in various Latin American countries. Founded in the Tocorón prison, in the Venezuelan state of Aragua, the organization operates as a loosely structured criminal syndicate, coordinating various gangs specialized in crimes ranging from kidnappings to drug trafficking.

According to the media, the United States Customs and Border Patrol have reported the arrest of 38 alleged members of the Aragua Train between October 2022 and 2023, underscoring the complexity of addressing the presence of this dangerous organization in the country.
