Center-left figures such as Felipe Harboe (ex-PPD), Oscar Landerretche (PS) and Javiera Parada (ex-RD) released a letter stating that they will vote for Rejection in the plebiscite on September 4, adding their disagreement with the proposal for a new Constitution drawn up by the Constitutional Convention, pointing out his criticisms of the Government/political system.

A group of former leaders of the Concertación and the New Majority announced this Tuesday afternoon that they will vote Rejection in the plebiscite on September 4, pointing his criticism towards the work of the Constitutional Convention.

Among the figures of the center-left who this Wednesday reported that they will vote Rejection are the former conventional Felipe Harboe, the former Minister of Finance, Andres Velascoalso the former head of the Treasury, Manuel Marfan, the former leader of the Democratic Revolution, Javiera Paradathe former president of the Codelco board, Oscar Landerretcheor the former director of the Museum of Memory, Ricardo Brodsky.

“Those of us who sign this letter are committed to a new Constitution. Many of us have spent years, long before the social outbreak, working with different social movements, civil society organizations, academia and political parties, to promote a new political coexistence agreement, capable of giving legitimacy to the rules of the game democratic and to make possible the changes that our society requires”, states the letter, slogan Third.

In addition, they maintain that they do not represent any group in particular and that they consider it important that Chile have a new Constitution, but not the proposal prepared by the Constitutional Convention.

“The signatories, without claiming any type of special representation or on behalf of any specific group, and only as citizens committed to the need for a new Constitution —but not just any Constitution— we invite you to vote Rejection this coming September 4”they add.

In the aforementioned letter, they emphasize that the political system developed by the Convention is the main point to reject the proposal for a new Constitution, since they consider that it will foster conflict, and not collaboration.

“In the political system, the proposal is not an advance with respect to what we have. The combination of a weakened Executive, a very powerful Congress of Deputies, and a Chamber of the Regions (which replaces the Senate) with greatly diminished powers, within the framework of rampant political fragmentation, anticipates a system that is more prone to conflict than to collaboration, and eventually also to capture over counterweights”, they affirm.
