O Banco Central (BC) is receiving until May 12 proposals from entities interested in participating in the pilot project Real Digital (Pilot RD). This project is the testing phase for operations with Real Digital, the BC’s future digital currency, in a simulated environment, without involving transactions or real amounts. In all, 10 institutions, selected according to the criteria and procedures set out in the regulation, will be able to test the system.

The idea is that Real Digital will be a platform focused on financial services, functioning in a similar way to Pix, but with a focus on other types of transactions, such as the purchase and sale of federal public securities. BC’s perspective is to make Real Digital available to the population from the end of 2024.

The pilot project began in March and the BC released the updated Real Digital guidelines, which include the development of innovative models incorporating technologies such as smart contracts and programmable money, compatible with the settlement of operations through the “internet of things” (IoT).

Institutions authorized to operate by the BC and that have the capacity to test transactions involving the issuance, redemption or transfer of financial assets will be able to participate in the pilot project. The application proposal for participation in the pilot project will be made exclusively by e-mail address [email protected] between the 2nd and 12th of May.

The number of participants in the Pilot RD is limited to 10 institutions, selected according to the criteria and procedures set out in the regulations. Employees of other bodies and regulatory entities of the National Financial System (SFN) may participate in the Pilot RD as observers, at the discretion of the CEG and upon invitation by its coordinator.
