On September 13, the instant communication application “WhatsApp” launched the long-awaited “channels” service in more than 150 countries in the world, after it was tested in specific countries.
After 10 days, some channels began achieving numbers in the millions, and the list of the ten most popular channels on “WhatsApp” as of Saturday on “WhatsApp” shows the following:
1. WhatsApp 19 million.
2. Netflix 14 million.
3. Real Madrid 13 million.
4. British Indian actress Katrina Kaif 11 million.
5. Puerto Rican rapper Bad Bunny 10.7 million.
6. FC Barcelona, 9.6 million.
7. Meta CEO Mark Zuckerberg 7.1 million.
8. Manchester City, England, 7 million.
9. Indian cricket team 6.9 million
10. Liverpool FC: 6 million.
The “Channels” service in WhatsApp, in brief, is: an account that regularly sends messages to many users, but there is no room for interaction in it, as in the well-known groups in the application, where messages can be exchanged.
However, anyone can choose to follow any channel by searching for it in the (update) box in the WhatsApp interface on smartphones.
WhatsApp stressed that its channels are an easy and reliable means that provides privacy for users who wish to obtain updates from the institutions and bodies that own the channels, such as news and government institutions, sports clubs, and others.
This feature had been present for years in the competing Telegram application, which distinguished the latter from WhatsApp, which still lacked an organized tool for the flow of information from institutions to the public.
