Central Hospital of San Cristóbal Protests: Medical Students and Professors Demand Access to Auditorium for Classes

Yesterday, once again, undergraduate and graduate students and professors of medicine from four universities in Táchira gathered at the leadership of the Central Hospital of San Cristobal to demand that the authorities of this care center allow them to receive their master classes in this facility that they have been using for years.

Last Wednesday, the management of the Central Hospital of San Cristóbal sent a statement to the academic coordinators and doctors, indicating that the Hugo Murci Auditorium From now on, it would only be available for protocol events, a situation that was described as an unusual event and a violation of the right to education of at least 600 students of this university degree.

The president of the Táchira State College of Physicians and head of the Traumatology and Orthopedics Service, Gustavo Uribe, joined the protest undertaken and from there he referred that the employer-physician relationship with the Ministry of Health establishes the possession of adequate areas for the development of medicine, as established in article 22 of the collective contract that has been in force since 2003.

Therefore, he pointed out that it is very good that they carry out the respective maintenance to the auditorium, to continue using it in classes, which last one hour, very early from Monday to Friday.

Uribe expressed that possibly the objective of use of the auditorium could be economicalto which he said that they had the right to take advantage of it, but this does not exclude students and teachers from using it.

The doctor Diego Soler Gómez, vice president of the Medical Society of the Central Hospital of San Cristóbal and coordinator of the internships of the Universidad de Los Andes, explained that for more than 30 years they have been giving academic activities in the auditorium, both for doctors in training and for postgraduate students and future doctors in the country, since it is the area that has the space Enough to house 80 people.

Luis Pastrán, president of the Student Center of the School of Medicine of the University of Los Andes, declared that due to the arbitrary closure of the aforementioned space, their academic activities are paralyzed, since they do not have any adequate space for such a large mass of students to see their orientations.
