Peking (ots/PRNewswire) – The Yellow River Culture Forum opened Tuesday in Dongying, east China’s Shandong Province. Under the motto “Promoting Yellow River Culture and Telling Yellow River Stories”, guests and representatives from China and overseas held a series of talks and discussions on these two topics.
During this forum, nine provinces and regions along the river signed a series of cooperation agreements to promote and transmit the culture of the Yellow River, strengthen exchanges in culture and tourism development, and cooperate in the protection of cultural relics.
Vice President of the Chinese Academy of Social Sciences Gao Peiyong said in his keynote speech that the Yellow River is the root and soul of the Chinese nation. The protection, heritage and promotion of the culture of the Yellow River is an important task in the implementation of the national strategy of environmental protection and quality development of the Yellow River.
“The history of Yellow River administration is the best expression of Yellow River culture,” said Li Qun, director of the Shandong Yellow River Administration Bureau.
Li said the historical records of Yellow River management, including flood management and riverbank maintenance and regulation, represent the indomitable spirit, hardworking nature and wisdom of the Chinese people. It also shows the continuous legacy of Chinese cultural heritage, he added.
Yu Yunquan, Dean of the Academy of Contemporary China and World Studies, spoke about the international spread of the Yellow River culture and the exchanges and mutual learning among the “great river civilizations.”
Yu called for further promoting high-quality Yellow River culture content internationally, including foreign language translations of Chinese texts, and using the Yellow River National Cultural Park to allow people from all over the world to experience the beauty of the Yellow River with all five senses .
A major academic project entitled “Overview of Yellow River Culture” was also presented at this forum. Organized and published by Shandong Normal University, this book series comprehensively shows the development and richness of the culture of the Yellow River.
In addition to the panel discussions, the forum organized a field study on the ecology and culture of the Yellow River Delta for visiting delegates.
The forum will take place until April 19th.
