2023-11-29 13:53:00

Due to a chain collision near Bruges-Zeehaven, the A11 motorway in the direction of Bruges is completely closed. This information is communicated by the Flemish Traffic Center and the traffic police.

The pileup occurred around 1:30 p.m., on the lanes heading towards Bruges. Several vehicles collided at the Bruges-Zeehaven exit. According to initial information, there were no serious injuries. But three people were taken to hospital. Het Laatste Nieuws collected the words of a witness to the accident, who claims that a hailstorm suddenly fell on the motorists. “I was driving and my wife suddenly said to me: ‘Be careful, there’s a truck stopped there’. By reflex, I stopped to the side. Fortunately, because I suddenly saw another car hit the truck. Then several other vehicles collided. Everything happened very quickly,” the witness explained. In total, ten cars and two trucks were involved, according to our colleagues.

How can we explain the numerous road accidents this Wednesday?

The highway was completely closed to traffic while the scene was cleared. Everyone must exit the motorway via the Knokke-Heist exit. Then all drivers should follow the N49 to the Westkapelle roundabout. Thanks to the emergency diversion, traffic can eventually return to the motorway via the Brugge-Zeehaven slip road.

People coming from Antwerp towards Bruges or Zeebrugge are advised to first take the E17, then the E40 to Ghent. The exact duration of the disruptions is not yet known.
