The mystery is over. the minister of Hacienda, Mario Marcel, con Monday confirmed the first change of the Government cabinet that had already been advanced on Sunday by the President after the defeat of the Approval.

The announcement will be made this Tuesday by President Gabriel Boric around 11:30 am, in the Montt Varas Room of the Palacio de La Moneda. The head of the Treasury stressed that after the plebiscite “the work of governing and promoting reforms is not going to be the same as of tomorrow (Tuesday)”.

In complete secrecy, in the last 24 hours a final arrangement of alternatives began to be carried out by President Gabriel Boric, with the aim of making a cabinet change this Tuesday.

The option of incorporating mayors, parliamentarians and former conventionalists has been declining, to make room for party figures, mainly from Democratic Socialism, with “political muscle” and an empowerment of well-reviewed undersecretaries as new portfolio managers.

This Tuesday the mystery ends at 11:30 a.m.

From the ruling party, they pointed to THE DYNAMO that among the ministers who would leave office until the last hours of Monday, are the heads of Segpres, Giorgio Jackson (RD); of Interior, Izkia Siches; of Health, Begoña Yarza; of Justice, Marcela Ríos (CS), and of Sciences, Flavio Salazar (PC).

These last three Secretaries of State, indicate from the Government, would not be well evaluated by the President due to a deficit in their management and statements that did not please the President on issues specific to each sectoral portfolio.

To these replacements would be added that of the minister who will take the place of Jeanette Vega, who resigned from the Social Development portfolio two weeks ago after the leak of a contact with the leader of the CAM Héctor Llaitul, without the consent of the President.

In the Political Committee this Monday the issue “was addressed subtly” and, they comment in the Palace, that each party said “that it was at the disposal of the President.” It was understood that Boric’s announcement had entered a countdown for a change .

In Democratic Socialism the ministers increase

In recent days, Gabriel Boric has been addressing the change with the party presidents and listening to figures mainly within Democratic Socialism.

In the ruling party they maintain that to succeed Izkia Siches, although at some point Carlos Montes (PS), Ana Lya Uriarte (PS) and Carolina Tohá (PPD) -who continues in the race due to her closeness to Boric- were analyzed as letters In the last few hours, the figures of the undersecretaries of the portfolio, Miguel Crispi (Regional Development) and Manuel Monsalve (Interior) have gained strength for the position.

Even within this framework, the President would have explored as an option the arrival of an experienced mayor, such as the one from Independencia, Gonzalo Durán or his counterpart from Peñalolén, Carolina Leitao (DC).

However, Durán ruled out resigning from his position in the mayor’s office and stated “he had no interest in leaving the Municipality.” In Leitao’s environment, that option was also rejected.

Meanwhile, Carlos Montes will continue his work in Housing and the name Ana Lya Uriarte generated significant rejection among the PS benches in Congress.

In Democratic Socialism, they point out that Carolina Tohá believes that she will avoid the trial of accounts that she maintains with the Comptroller’s Office and that she would be available to assume the Interior portfolio. That point is the main unknown in the corridors of the Palace. “Either it is her, or it is one of the undersecretaries,” says a government official who knew part of the decision process.

From Congress, in the PS and PPD Senate committees, they confirmed Tohá as Boric’s alternative, along with Monsalve.

They added from Valparaíso that one of the main figures to succeed Yarza is the former president of the Chamber of Deputies and vice president of the PPD, Marco Antonio Núñez. They point out that the Harvard doctor and public health expert is the best card to lead the Health reform in Congress, whose bill will be announced in September.

The arrivals of earthquake expert Marcelo Lagos and a historical radical

Another of the weighty figures that would arrive at the Cabinet would be the former Minister of Justice of Michelle Bachelet, Jose Antonio Gomez. The also former senator and former leader of the PR, would return to that same portfolio, to urgently deal with what the Second Floor considers a crisis in the Gendarmerie, which the current head of the portfolio, Marcela Ríos, has not been able to successfully overcome.

According to the Government, the main letter to succeed the man of the PC Flavio Salazar in the Ministry of Sciences, is the geographer Marcelo Lagos Lopezwho had an outstanding role in the second round campaign as one of those in charge of the Environment area of the presidential command.

Marcelo Lagos is a Chilean geographer and academic, he has focused on the work of extension and dissemination of geographical sciences in order to reduce the risk of disasters.
