Changing Wimbledon Fixtures: Djokovic’s Call for Earlier Start Times

Fixtures are a big topic at Wimbledon this year. Because the start is quite late, there are always postponements of the game. Superstar Djokovic is therefore suggesting changes.

Record Grand Slam champion Novak Djokovic has spoken out in favor of starting tennis games earlier in Wimbledon’s two major stadiums. “I think the matches might be brought forward to at least 12 p.m.,” said the 36-year-old Serb. “That would make a difference.”

Center Court matches begin at 1.30pm local time at the All England Lawn Tennis and Croquet Club, with Court 1 starting just half an hour earlier. Because the matches have to end by 11 p.m. at the latest due to the night’s rest in the district, numerous games might not be completed this year. They had to be continued the next day. This also affected Djokovic’s game once morest Hubert Hurkacz from Poland in the round of 16.

“Understandably, the beginning of the night’s rest is much more difficult to change,” said Djokovic. For this reason, the organizers should consider starting the games earlier, explained Djokovic, who has won the lawn classic seven times so far.
