Mexico City. The Chapingo Autonomous University (UACh) will increase its educational offer to 28 degrees with Veterinary Medicine and Zootechnics, starting in the 2024-2025 school year. This was approved by the University Council on July 8.

The headquarters will be the Regional University Unit of Arid Zones, in Bermejillo, Durango. The rector of the UACh, Angel Garduño García, pointed out that this is a fundamental step to prepare and expand the academic possibilities of students.

The official recalled that the Veterinary career was part of the structure of the old National College of Agriculture and Veterinary Medicine created by presidential decree on August 17, 1853. In 1862, the first four veterinarians graduated as the National School.

The School closed at the beginning of the revolutionary period and reopened in 1916, but as the National Veterinary School, independent from the Agriculture School. Later, in 1929, he joined the National Autonomous University of Mexico (UNAM).

Meanwhile, the National School of Agriculture resumed its activities in 1924 at the Ex Hacienda de Chapingo. It was not until 1974 that by decree of the Congress of the Union, the Chapingo Autonomous University was established.

Now, with the agreement of the University Council, the institution resumes a career that gave birth to it and now “is back home,” said Garduño García.
