The Charleroi criminal court handed down a five-year prison sentence late Wednesday morning with a 5-year probationary suspension against a 24-year-old young man after confessing to rape of a 12-year-old girl. years and the possession of naked images of the latter. The defendant admitted that the victim “told him no” at the time of the rape. The prosecution had requested a six-year prison sentence against him.
On the night of January 10 to 11, 2022, the 12-year-old victim was sexually assaulted after being hosted at the basketball coach’s home. When questioned, the defendant confirmed having raped the minor and that the latter “told him no.” The young man also did not deny having exchanged naked images with the teenager and having initiated these exchanges.
A six-year prison sentence was requested by deputy Vervaeren against the defendant, described as having engaged in “predatory behavior” by the judicial authority. Me Brison, for the defense, had pleaded for evidentiary measures to prevent his client from being downgraded socially.
