Clics Modernos, the iconic album by Charly García

“Clics Modernos”, the album in question, commemorates its fortieth anniversary this November 5. This iconic work was created in a loft in the Village of New York, where Charly García was staying with his girlfriend at the time, Zoca. Equipped with instruments and a portable studio, Charly shaped each of the songs that would make up the album.

With the collaboration of musicians such as Carlos “Pirín” Geniso, Joe Blaney as producer, Pedro Aznar on bass, Casey Scheverrell on drums, Larry Carlton on guitar and Doug Norwine on saxophone, Charly García created an innovative and modern sound, which incorporated elements such as electronic drums, samplers with the voice of James Brown and robotic sounds.

The album cover was captured by photographer Uberto Sagromoso on the same wall at the corner of Walker Street and Cortlandt Alley, in front of a street graffiti by Richard Hambleton, which featured life-size black silhouettes known as “Shadowman”, along with the inscription “Modern Clix”, the name of an unknown new wave group. Although the album was initially going to be called “Nuevos Trapos”, Charly opted for “Clics Modernos”, and it was released on November 5, 1983.

The album was presented live by Charly García at Luna Park on December 18 of that same year, a week after the inauguration of Raúl Alfonsín as president of Argentina. At the show, Charly was accompanied by a band made up of GIT, Fito Páez, Fabiana Cantilo, Daniel Melingo and Gonzo Palacios.
