“I apologize to the world of football for how I have acted and, if it happens to me again, I will not react as I am and I will know how to behave,” declared the goalkeeper who nevertheless remarked, this Tuesday in the press room of his team, that “it bothers him a lot” to apologize for being the victim.

“This bothers me a lot and I do it because you have to be respectful and it is the most correct thing to do. Even if you are the victim, you have to apologize to the world of football. I’m not doing it for this boy (who insulted him), but for the image of football,” said the Senegalese goalkeeper.

Last Saturday, Cheikh Sarr was sent off for confronting Sestao fans behind his goal who were using racist insults against him. His team, Rayo Majadahonda, decided for this reason to leave the field of play in the 84th minute and the match played in Las Llanas was suspended.

“If I receive a sanction, it will surprise me because it would be unfair, because a person cannot be the victim and then punish them. If it happens, the club will know what to do. “My act on the referee was not an aggressive act. I went to talk about it and express it and suddenly I saw the red card. It seemed strange to me and I went to ask him with all the respect in the world and it was the only thing I asked him, nothing more. After the game, an hour later he asked me everything that had happened and he supported me and I am grateful,” explained Cheikh Sarr, who declared that the referee could not hear what they told him “because he was not there” and confessed that the worst moment That’s when they insulted him.

“The worst moment was when he was insulting me and saying everything. My reaction was that because I wanted to talk about it and I grabbed him to ask him why he had insulted me and if he had a family. On top of that, he was an older person and he has to be an example,” said the player, who clarified that Vinicius has not been in direct contact with him, but that he appreciates his gestures of affection on social networks.

The Senegalese goalkeeper, who explained that he has not trained because he feels discomfort, acknowledged that this is not the first time this has happened to him, although he explained that on that occasion it was a “joking act.”

“It wasn’t the first time it happened to me, but the other thing was a specific act and a joke. What happened was a horrible thing that I couldn’t stand and it was very ugly. What happened to me was not the same,” she indicated.

Cheikh Sarr, who wanted to show all his gratitude to María José Morillas, the club’s psychologist who “does not stop” helping him and “is very close” to him, explained that several Sestao River players have shown him their support, and about the reaction of the Basque club stressed that he did not see her, because at that moment “he didn’t even know where she was.”

“I didn’t realize how they acted because at that moment I didn’t even know where I was and I haven’t seen anything on social networks so I wouldn’t know what had happened,” said the player, in reference to the Basque club initially classifying on social networks as “a mishap with a spectator” the events, although he later issued a three-point statement in which he showed his “most absolute condemnation of racism and violence.”
