England midfielder Mason Mount bid farewell to Chelsea fans in a video he posted on social media today, Tuesday, to confirm his departure from the London club, amid speculation of a move to local rival Manchester United.

The Athletic website reported that United had reached an agreement to sign Mount for five years for 55 million pounds ($69.93 million), plus five million in bonuses.

“Given the speculation over the last six months, this probably won’t come as a surprise to you, but it doesn’t make it easy to tell you that I’ve made the decision to leave Chelsea,” Mount said in the video.

“I felt that you deserve more than just a written statement, so I wanted to tell you directly about my gratitude for your support over the last 18 years.”

And he continued, I know that some of you are not happy with my decision, but it is the right decision for me at this moment in my career.

The 24-year-old made his Chelsea debut in 2017 and subsequently scored 33 goals and provided 37 assists in 195 appearances in all competitions for the club.

Mount continued, I joined the ranks of Chelsea at the age of six, and we had many moments together.

Winning the Youth Cup, Player of the Year awards, Super Cup, Club World Cup and of course the night of winning the Champions League is unforgettable.

I would like to thank the academy for its very influential role in my career at such a young age, to the coaches I dealt with, the staff and all my colleagues who have become my brothers over the years, and most importantly you (the fans).

The England international made 24 Premier League appearances last season, scoring three goals and providing two assists, but suffered a pelvic injury.
