Avoid taking these medications with allergy treatments that contain cortisone, as it is preferable to space them out.

Do not stop receiving corticosteroids, whether pills or sprays, analogous to these drugs, but the dose should be reduced gradually.

Avoid allergens as much as possible.

Radwan explained that medicines containing montelukast are the best option to prevent children from exacerbating their chest allergy symptoms in the fall.

He added that montelukast plays a big role in inhibiting leukotriene, a chemical the body releases when allergens, such as pollen, are inhaled, which causes the lungs to swell and tighten the muscles around the airways.

He pointed out that montelukast has other indications for use, most notably:

Preventing asthma attacks in adults and children from 12 months of age.

Preventing exercise-induced bronchoconstriction in adults and children at least 6 years old.

Radwan concluded his speech by clarifying that montelukast may cause the child the following side effects:

– Abdominal pain.

Diarrhea.

Headache.

– Inflammation of the middle ear
