SK Chairman Chey Tae-won (pictured) held a town hall meeting with 350 members of ‘Apollo’, SK Telecom’s artificial intelligence (AI) new business task force (TF) on the 11th and said, “We will transform SK Telecom into a new AI company.” To this end, we will mobilize SK’s information and communication technology (ICT) capabilities.” Chairman Choi has served as SK Telecom’s unregistered and unpaid chairman since last month.
According to SK Telecom, Chairman Choi held a town hall-style meeting with about 350 Apollo employees together with SK Telecom CEO Yoo Young-sang at the Supex Hall of SK Telecom’s headquarters in Euljiro, Seoul on the same day. This is the first step in communication with executives and employees since Chairman Choi took office as SK Telecom chairman.
Chairman Choi said, “It is difficult to compete with platform companies according to their rules. Let’s take a meaningful challenge with a differentiated strategy.” SK Telecom is preparing an ‘AI agent’ business, which is an AI avatar in the digital world of individual users. He said, “We will expand the existing Apollo TF into a regular organization to significantly reinforce manpower and resources. Chairman Choi said, “We will communicate more horizontally in the future.” He also said, “Please call me by my English name ‘Tony’ in the same way as SK Telecom.”
