Chiefs fans suffered frostbite: amputations necessary

A Missouri hospital announced this on Friday (local time), without providing specific information about the number of people affected. According to the release, dozens of people had to be treated for frostbite during the cold spell in the Kansas City area surrounding the Jan. 13 game.

It felt like minus 33 degrees

Amputations were necessary for twelve people – including visitors to the NFL game. More could follow in the coming weeks. During the game it was as cold as minus 20 degrees Celsius, and due to the wind the temperature in Arrowhead Stadium felt like it was minus 33 degrees Celsius. However, the cold record is still held by a game between the Green Bay Packers and the Dallas Cowboys from 1967, when the perceived temperature was said to have been minus 44 degrees Celsius.

The Chiefs around star quarterback Patrick Mahomes won the game against Miami and won the Super Bowl again in February. Pop superstar Taylor Swift was also in the stadium for the game against the Dolphins. Chiefs professional Travis Kelce’s girlfriend watched the game from a heated box.
