The tireless exponent of Ñublensino mountainbike, Mabel Vásquez, from the Buen Pastor Club of Chillán, starred in an applaudable performance in the “Araucanía Mountainbike Toru 2024”, cross country marathon modality, within the framework of the first date of the Chile Cup, held on Sunday in Cherquenco, Vilcún commune, La Araucanía Region.
Vásquez took first place in the female master category B, after covering a distance of 55 km, mostly highly difficult trails that cross ancient forests, water passes, rocks, roots and bridges with an altimetry of 1,250 meters.
“The circuit is of international level. Long and exhausting. 90 percent of the race was a fairly technical trail. The XCM National was held there. There were 340 runners registered and that raises the level because they come from all over the country. It was not in my plans to attend because it is far away and I am coming back from an injury, but there is the option of going with other participants from Chillán,” says Mabel.
“It was a very nice experience, which leaves me quite happy and my result even more so. It encourages me to continue participating for Chillán in XCM and XCO”, confessed Mabel Vásquez
She was not the only representative of mountain biking in the region who left her mark on the circuit laid out in La Araucanía.
Marcelo Basualto achieved fifth place in the C1 master category, representing the Raider Ñuble Cycling Club.
Another group of pedalers did not obtain a podium, but they also stood out for their mettle: Víctor Ponce (San Nicolás), representative of the Buen Pastor Chillán Club, Héctor Sánchez Castillo, from the San Carlos Cycling Club, Daniel Fuentes, from the San Carlos Cycling Club and Juan Pablo Lillo, also an exponent of the San Carlos cycling club.
