Gendarmerie on alert due to reaction of prisoners due to the use of inhibitors – La Discusión 2024-04-16 05:43:36

A complex situation was alerted by the Gendarmerie in the Santiago 1 Preventive Detention Center, starting with the entry into operation of telephone signal inhibitors to prevent inmates from continuing to commit crimes from inside the prison.

The gendarmes affirm that there are various threats from organized criminals who seek to prevent the installation of inhibitors.

In that sense, the penitentiary body suggests that “hitmen” would be hired to shoot at the antennas from the outside. There has also been mention of riots with threats to take defense lawyers hostage.

According to radio Bío Bío, through an instruction that is issued by the Gendarmerie and that reached all officials on floors 1 and 2, that is, the senior officers, in addition to gendarmes and their officers from the same institution, it is stated that from this Thursday onwards “all statutory permits for the staff of plants 1 and 2 are suspended until further notice.”

“The uniformed officials, starting today, will not be able to leave the jurisdiction and must remain available and attentive to the liaison plan.” That is, be attentive to calls and contacts in case they are needed, from the Gendarmerie command.

In addition, it is added that the headquarters must notify in writing of this ruling to the staff of all the prisons in the Metropolitan Region.

The Minister of Justice, Luis Cordero, pointed out that all necessary safeguards have been taken to avoid a security crisis that compromises the lives of defenders and persecutors.

The head of Justice maintained that the inhibition will be carried out in the coming weeks and warned that the full rigor of the law will fall on those who want to prevent its correct functioning.

Finally, Cordero stated that the State has taken all preventive and effective coordination measures to prevent any conflict from occurring within the prisons.
