Lack of transportation prevents salt from reaching several provinces 2024-04-16 05:40:34

The shortage of salt in several provinces of the country has a cause: there is no transportation to transport it from Las Tunas.

The current production of the Puerto Padre Salinera does not benefit consumers from other territories such as Holguín and Villa Clara, to name just two examples.

The transportation crisis and lack of fuel on the Island affects all sectors of the Cuban economy and society, according to the local diary Newspaper 26. The aforementioned state entity currently has sufficient production capacity to supply fine salt to other territories.

The transportation crisis itself is suffered daily by the Salinera workers. There are more than 250 workers who walk several kilometers daily within the center. To this we must add that many times there is no availability of fuel to supply the vehicle fleet.

25 thousand tons as an annual plan

Last year, the salt company produced more than 25 thousand tons of fine salt. Their workers have the same plan for this year. However, as is happening now, the product does not reach the target consumers.

The local newspaper also reported that the salt mine plans to extract 32,000 tons of raw material to produce 16,500 tons of coarse salt. In this case, its main destinations are the Electrochemical Industry of Sagua la Grande, Villa Clara, and animal feed. Likewise, 8,500 tons are allocated to the basic basket and social consumption.

Meanwhile, the Technical Head of the salt factory, Yenisleydys Domínguez Sánchez, commented that they aspire to resume exports. “Despite the recognized material and structural difficulties, the entity aspires to export salt again. That is a possibility that we can materialize.”

By the way, during the Third Industry and Commerce Fair of 2023, the representative of the Caribbean Community showed interest in the salt company’s products. The executive emphasized products intended for the electrochemical industry.
